December 31 was the night for two station awards ceremonies. First up, we have the 2009 SBS Drama Awards, where, like at the previous night's MBC Drama Awards, the night was dominated by one big winner, the makjang mega-hit revenge series Wife's Temptation.
Even so, a fair mix of other dramas also won awards, which is aided by the fact that SBS had a lot more successful dramas to work with than MBC did. Brilliant Legacy, Cain & Abel, and City Hall all won awards, while You're Beautiful picked up a lot of the fan and youth picks (new stars, popularity award).
My big dissatisfaction with the list, though, is that there are SO many dramas named that the designation feels rather meaningless - it's like the station wanted to be sure not to leave out anyone that they handed something to every one of its shows that had at least mild success.

But first, here's the special A.N.JELL performance of their song (Still). I'm pretty sure they're all faking the instruments - Jung may be playing, but I'm skeptical - but ah, it does remind me of the infectious fun of You're Beautiful, which is really the main point:
(After the intro, Jang Geun-seok yells, "I told you not to be where I can't see you!" He comes out and says, "Who told you to sing without me?" and then introduces himself as his character Hwang Tae-kyung. I just LOVE how into it he is.)
Jang Seo-hee took home the grand prize of the night with her Daesang for Wife's Temptation. Her look is fabulous - she's confident and stylish.
So Ji-sub got second-highest honor with a Top Excellence Award for his role in Cain & Abel.
Cha Seung-won and Kim Sun-ah were both given awards for their roles in City Hall. Most glamorous couple of the night, for sure.
How cute are Lee Hong-ki and Jung Yong-hwa? The two You're Beautiful stars are showing off somewhat unusual fashions - Jung's suit looks vaguely Victorian, and I had a head-scratching moment over Hong-ki's fur cap (and culottes!) - but I think they pull it off. It's all about the attitude. (I'm really digging Jung Yong-hwa's hair like this.)
Their co-star Park Shin-hye (You're Beautiful) looks young and fun in this dress, but the bright red keeps it from being too sweet (which I mean as a good thing - it's not too little-girl).
A.N.JELL leader Jang Geun-seok (You're Beautiful) came with last year's Daesang winner, Moon Geun-young, and SBS announcer Park Sun-young. He looks cool and fresh in the slim white suit - the effect is like having Hwang Tae-kyung softened with Jang Geun-seok's boyish smile - but then he had to go and change things up for the awards. Oy! (And yet this is still pretty good, considering how he could have dressed.) Bottom line: he's adorable.
The gown seems a leetle extravagant for the occasion, but the old-fashioned finger wave hairstyle is very flattering on Moon Geun-young.
To be honest, I don't love Lee Min-jung's (Smile) dress - the shape is plain and the bodice looks overworked (and yet, also unfinished). She's so gorgeous and vivacious that this style seems bland for her. (Park Shin-hye does a similar color scheme, also with the black belt, but the cut of Park's dress is more flattering.)
Lee Min-jung's Smile co-star Jung Kyung-ho, on the other hand, looks great and crisp. The hair may not work for everyday, but it suits him for an occasion like this.
Han Hyo-joo and Lee Seung-gi led one of SBS's biggest successes of the year, and were duly recognized for their breakout roles, also pulling in the Best Couple award for Brilliant Legacy. (I love how Han Hyo-joo is styled, but not the black dress, and I want to yell at her to straighten out her slumping posture. The shorter beige dress is more fun, imo. Monochromatic black works well on most men, and Lee Seung-gi is no exception.)
Brilliant Legacy's other male actor, Bae Soo-bin, takes a more classic tux look. (Too bad it doesn't fit as well as it could. See: So Ji-sub for a perfectly fitted tux.)
Jung Kyeo-woon had two big dramas this year, KBS's Again My Love and the current SBS weekend series Loving You A Thousand Times.
Kim Bum was busy with two dramas this year, but his success story wasn't with SBS. Dream did, however, earn him and his co-star Sohn Dam-bi some New Star awards.
Park Shi-hoo was given an award for his role in the family drama Family Honor.
Kim Seo-hyung is one of many Wife's Temptation cast members who earned an acting award. That ice blue gown gives her a regal look.
Byun Woo-min wins for Wife's Temptation.
Oh Young-shil (called "Korea's Aunt" by some, which means that her aunt role was much beloved by fans) won for Wife's Temptation.
Choi Joon-yong, yet another Wife's Temptation winner. (Seeing a pattern here?)
Kim Mi-sook was a love-to-hate villain in Brilliant Legacy, and won a Top Excellence award for her efforts.
Na Young-hee was recognized the previous night for her MBC drama Queen of Housewives, and was also recognized by SBS for her role in Style. Na does haughty snob roles so well.
I never cottoned on to Lee Yong-woo's acting in Style, and I'm pretty sure he was cast because his looks fit the part. On a shallow note, I like the way he's styled, with the collar and tie.
Lifetime achievement went to Ban Hyo-jung, who had numerous drama roles in 2009 (Iron Empress, The Road Home, Creating Destiny), but her SBS role came in Brilliant Legacy. Cha Hwa-yeon had two SBS roles this year, in City Hall and Angel's Temptation.
Kim Hee-jung can be seen now in KBS's family drama Three Brothers; I just have to point out what a hot wreck her look is. From the neck up, her hair and makeup is flawless. The gown, on the other hand, screams trashy. Eek!
Maya is more known as a pop singer, but crossed over into acting with a role in this year's Family Honor.
Yoon Jung-hee, also of Family Honor:
Kim Tae-hyun (Angel's Temptation), and Kang Ji-sub (Two Wives):
Child actor winners Jung Yoon-seok (Wife's Temptation) and Kim Soo-jung (Two Wives). (She's wearing a tiara! And arm socks!)
