Brief Synopsis
With the second highest divorce rate in the world, it is time for Korean society to take a moment to unearth the reasons why the material abundance and well-being have resulted in more ruined families and wandering souls that cannot find their spiritual refuge. My Lovely Family tells from various perspectives about what we have lost but must find again, and what we should never let go of. This drama tackles such issues as the love of a middle-aged married couple, relations between parents and children, and problems of the elderly and women. It also takes an in-depth look at the problem of education and employment in a society that ignores human values and prioritizes educational background above everything else.
Hong Soo-hyun
Koh Hee-soo : 26 years old; graduated from commercial high school for girls; currently teaches aqua aerobics in a neighborhood private school
Hee-soo’s mother tried desperately to send her to a prestigious college, but she had to give up because Hee-soo was not interested in earning a degree. One day, Hee-soo is set up with Ahn Jin-kuk, the son of the owner of a real-estate conglomerate, and after many twists and turns they get married. But soon after the marriage, Hee-soo encounters the topsy-turvy life of her in-laws. What's more, Ahn Jin-kuk turns out to be an irresponsible and wishy-washy husband who is also on bad terms with his parents. Hee-soo gathers her will to overcome the hardships through patience and wisdom.
Nam Kung-min
Kim Jae-min : just married to Song Ji-hye; the only son of Kim Dae-seok and Lee Sun-ja; a typical 'mama boy'
Although he looks like a spoiled child of his parents, Jae-min has a strong will and firm principles. He is a good-looking guy who has received plenty of love from his mother. When Jae-min and his wife face a crisis in their relationship because Jae-min’s father-in-law, Song Min-sup, refuses to give up his strong attachment to his daughter, the two decide to start their own life. As they embark on their independent life, they mature spiritually and develop their unique personalities.
Kim Bin-woo
Song Ji-hye : 25 years old; the only daughter of Hee-soo's aunt Kang Sung-ae and Song Min-sup; a typical 'papa girl'
Song Ji-hye is an outgoing and cheerful person with a strong character. She spent most of her life with her father, and feels more affectionate to him than to her mother. Ji-hye works in a cosmetics company as a marketing specialist. She marries Kim Jae-min, who works in the same company, but instead of a happy newlywed life she runs into numerous hardships because of her mother-in-law, who adores her only son, and her own father, who loves her too much.
